It turns out that this girl, Sheeta (Keiko Yokozawa/Anna Paquin), was on an airship en route to we're not sure where when she escaped her captors after pirates attacked and grabbed a pendant from the lead officer. And when she fell, the pendant's power kicked in so that she floated, rather than plummeted. Pazu takes her back to his home, which is at the top of a mountain (where he blows a bugle to wake up the valley every day), and she sees his father's photo and hears the story of his dreams. It turns out that Pazu is fascinated by flight and has been building his own airplane. But before the two have much of a chance to bond, or even get to know each other, the pirates descend.
